BUGS THAT LOOK LIKE CHRISTMAS TREES

Bugs that look like Christmas treesCosta Rica Cost of Living Update:  12 foot Christmas tree- $14

Costa Rica has some of the most diverse plants and animals on the planet.   This little guy caught my eye as he wondered onto my terrace.  At first glance I thought it was just pine needles blowing in the wind. But as his movement was slow and steady, he made me take a closer look.

His camouflage reminds me of a Christmas tree, or maybe I’m just in the holiday spirit. Either way I wouldn’t mind putting some decorations on him. Only one or two blinking lights and some garland… just enough to remind me of home.

Down in Zancudo in the rainy season, these HUGE bullfrogs appear… quite scary, but they mean no harm.

    I think. 🙂

I love the bullfrogs! We have big toads here that are poisonous, have to make sure my dog doesn’t go near them.

    Hi, great blog, awesome stories.
Coming to Costa Rica in January for a few weeks. Can you tell me where we can see that caterpiller, and what it might be known as among the locals?

The rain has stopped so it’s looking like a great dry season. January is a great time of year here. I will look into that bug, hopefully I can catch the name of it. If you are going anywhere outside of the beach, you will see so many of these bugs. I’ve used this analogy before, but Costa Rica is a lot like Jurassic Park. I’m often surprised by the things in the ground, in the air, and as for the kinkajou, hanging off my window sill. Are you going to Arenal Volcano? It’s one of my favorite spots to see wildlife.

Oh wow. That’s weird and cool at the same time. That would freak me out if I saw it moving on my Christmas tree.

I am always doing a double take…”what in the world…is that thing moving….get the camera.” It happens at least once a day. I took a good hike up the mountain today, got my heart racing. Keep up the running.
